How to Split a PDF and Extract Specific Pages for Free
You have a 40-page scan and only need pages 3 to 6. Or one big PDF that must be sent as five separate files. Splitting is the answer, and it takes under a minute once you know which of the four modes to use.
Pick the right split mode
- Extract one range โ you want a single new file with certain pages, e.g.
1-3, 5, 7-9. - One file per N pages โ a 30-page PDF cut into files of 10 pages each.
- Equal parts โ split into 2, 3 or 4 parts of nearly the same size.
- Multiple ranges โ each range becomes its own file, e.g.
1-3; 5-7; 10. Several files are delivered as one ZIP.
Step by step
- Open Split PDF and drop your PDF.
- Look at the page previews. Tap a page to select it, or press ๐ for a large view when you cannot tell two similar pages apart.
- Check the page-range box โ it fills in as you tap, and you can edit it directly.
- Press Split & Download.
The file is processed on your device; nothing is uploaded.
Page-range cheat sheet
5โ only page 52-4โ pages 2, 3 and 41-3, 8, 10-12โ pages 1โ3, page 8 and pages 10โ12 together in one file
Pages are always kept in their original order. If you want a different order, use Reorder Pages afterwards.
Common reasons to split
- Upload portals that accept only a limited number of pages or MB per file.
- Sending only the relevant pages of a contract, so the rest stays private.
- Separating a combined scan (ID proof, marksheet, certificate) into individual documents.
Frequently asked questions
Will splitting reduce the quality?
No. Pages are copied as they are, so text and images stay exactly the same.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
If the file only restricts editing or printing it can usually be split. A PDF that needs a password to open must be unlocked first.
Is there a page limit?
There is no fixed limit in the tool; very large files depend on your device memory.
